N\u00e3o h\u00e1 antibi\u00f3ticos dispon\u00edveis como suporte em caso de dist\u00farbios. Ainda nessas circunst\u00e2ncias, as galinhas podem produzir ovos de boa qualidade, se reproduzir com efici\u00eancia e os frangos produzirem carne de boa qualidade. Como podem gerenciar isso? As aves dom\u00e9sticas possuem mecanismos de autorregula\u00e7\u00e3o que lidam com os riscos e amea\u00e7as ambientais. Tais mecanismos s\u00e3o: uma pele protetora bem desenvolvida, crescimento de penas e um TGI bem desenvolvido. Al\u00e9m disso, o TGI deve ser capaz de reduzir as amea\u00e7as bacterianas, protozo\u00e1rias e virais. O est\u00f4mago das aves tem o pH mais baixo, variando entre 2,5 e 4, dependendo da idade e nutri\u00e7\u00e3o (composi\u00e7\u00e3o, estrutura, consumo). Esse baixo pH \u00e9 necess\u00e1rio para solubilizar minerais como o c\u00e1lcio e iniciar a digest\u00e3o. O trato intestinal em aves \u00e9 muito curto em compara\u00e7\u00e3o com outros animais. Para aumentar o tempo de passagem e, assim, a digest\u00e3o, foi instalado um sistema engenhoso de refluxo da parte proximal do intestino delgado de volta ao est\u00f4mago. O pH do TGI n\u00e3o afeta apenas a atividade das enzimas para digerir os nutrientes, mas tamb\u00e9m atua como um porteiro para conter agentes patog\u00eanicos.
